Exporting to 14 countries: 25-year-old Turkish food giant files for concordat
Aydın-based Sante Gıda has filed for a concordat due to the economic crisis and aflatoxin issues encountered in exports. The company, which exports dried figs to 14 countries, is struggling to cope with challenges in the sector.
Sante Gıda, located in the Nazilli district, has filed for a concordat due to problems experienced in exports. The firm, one of Turkey's significant dried fig exporters, is going through difficult times in the European market due to aflatoxin and ochratoxin issues. Products that were returned and destroyed have negatively impacted the company's financial situation.
With 25 years of experience, Sante Gıda has entered the concordat process to combat the crisis. The firm's modern facilities produce 1,500 tons of conventional dried figs, 750 tons of organic dried figs, and 250 tons of dried apricots annually. It exports to 14 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, the UK, the USA, China, and Australia.
The family business, which has been operating for three generations, holds an important place in the sector with more than 200 employees. However, the European Union's strict food safety inspections have led to serious problems in exports. The returned products are negatively affecting not only the firm but also the regional economy.
Company officials stated that the concordat process is a step taken to ensure business continuity and restructure debts. Sante Gıda aims to maintain its position in the sector with packaging solutions tailored to customer demands. It was stated that the strong cooperation with producers, which has continued for over 15 years, will provide support during this process.
Other firms operating in the region are also facing similar problems. Sector representatives point to the importance of state support for solving the aflatoxin problem. Sante Gıda's concordat application has once again highlighted the challenges faced by the Turkish food sector in the global market.
