Farmers in Antalya calculate carbon footprint in agricultural areas with ATB software

Taking significant steps to increase sustainability in agriculture and reduce carbon dioxide emissions that threaten the environment and cause climate change, the ATB developed "Agricultural Carbon Footprint Calculation" software for producers last year.

ATB Board Chairman Ali Çandır reminded that the negative effects of climate change are affecting the whole world, and natural disasters such as droughts and floods have begun to occur frequently.

Stating that agriculture is also negatively affected by this situation, Çandır noted that agriculture accounts for 50 percent of Antalya's exports and that Turkey makes a large portion of its agricultural exports to European countries.

Reminding that Turkey is a party to the Paris Climate Agreement, Çandır said that every sector has important duties in reducing greenhouse gases.

Stating that the measures to be taken by EU countries could disrupt Antalya's agricultural trade with the EU, Çandır emphasized that for this reason, producers need to have their carbon footprint reports prepared.

14 thousand 185 companies used the application in one year

Stating that they developed software that calculates the carbon footprint in agricultural areas to protect both nature and the producer, and that it has been used by producers in Antalya for about a year, Çandır said the following:

"Businesses that answer 11 questions by entering the Exchange's web page can use their carbon footprints as a reference. If the measurements are not appropriate, they can also request service from us on this matter. We match them with our universities and relevant institutions to help them reduce their carbon emissions."

Stating that businesses can produce in a healthier environment without polluting nature in 11 steps, Çandır reported that the application will also make a significant contribution to exports.

Stating that 14 thousand 185 companies benefited from the application in one year, Çandır noted that as the awareness of the application increases, the number of companies benefiting from it will also increase.

Çandır added that producers can measure the emission status of their businesses with the "Agricultural Carbon Footprint Calculation" software, which they can access at www.antalyaborsa.org.tr, and can request information, training, and the preparation of a detailed greenhouse gas inventory report.
