Fatih Dönmez: We will increase our natural gas storage capacity to 13 billion cubic meters

AK Party Eskişehir Deputy Fatih Dönmez said, "We will increase our underground natural gas storage capacity, which is currently 5.8 billion cubic meters, to 13 billion cubic meters by the end of the plan period. Fatih Dönmez: We will increase our natural gas storage capacity to 13 billion cubic meters

Dönmez spoke on behalf of the AK Party Group regarding the 12th Development Plan. Stating that they attach importance to renewable energy sources and technologies in Turkey's fight against climate change in line with the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral country by 2053, Dönmez said, "In this context, by the end of the plan period, we will increase our installed solar power capacity to 30 thousand MW and our installed wind power capacity to 18 thousand MW. With the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant starting production with all its units, we will reach 4 thousand 800 MW of installed nuclear power. Thus, we aim to reach 136 thousand MW in total installed electricity capacity by the end of the plan period. To this end, we will continue to hold new Renewable Energy Resource Zone (YEKA) tenders with domestic component requirements and continue efforts to develop offshore YEKA projects.

On the other hand, our country currently ranks 12th in the world and 5th in Europe in total installed renewable energy capacity, and 13th in the world and 6th in Europe in total electricity generation from renewable sources. In addition, pre-licenses for over 20 thousand MW of electricity storage projects have been granted by the EMRA. With these developments, the share of renewable sources in electricity generation will reach 50 percent by the end of 2028," he stated.

Dönmez spoke as follows:

We will increase our underground natural gas storage capacity, which is currently 5.8 billion cubic meters, to 13 billion cubic meters by the end of the plan period. Furthermore, we will continue our activities rapidly to make our country an energy trading hub by effectively utilizing its geostrategic position between energy-producing and consuming regions. We will continue our oil and natural gas exploration and drilling activities in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea with our own vessels and within our own continental shelf with determination, and we will bring the resources we identify into our economy as soon as possible. While continuing our mining resource exploration and production activities, we prioritize bringing our underground wealth into the economy without harming nature and the environment, and we continue our work devotedly for this purpose."
