Bad news for retirees, good news for minimum wage earners from Fatih Portakal! He gave a date for the raise...
Journalist Fatih Portakal stated on the Sözcü TV Main News Bulletin that there could be an additional raise for the minimum wage and provided a date. Speaking about retirement pensions as well, Portakal commented, "The door is closed for retirees."
The Turkish Lira continues to lose value due to high inflation, rising exchange rates, and the high cost of living.
While the minimum wage was set at 17,002 TL as of January 1, the government side had stated that there would be only one raise for the minimum wage in 2024. Journalist Fatih Portakal made a striking claim regarding the minimum wage on the Sözcü TV Main News Bulletin.
"WHO IS THIS ECONOMY GROWING FOR?"
Evaluating the statements of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the economy, Portakal said, "The President says we have grown as an economy, but who is this economy growing for? Who is it growing for? Is the general public benefiting from the size of this economy, or is a small oligarchic order benefiting from it?"
Stating that "the door is closed for retirees," Portakal used the expressions, "But a second adjustment for the minimum wage could happen in June. I am expecting that."
"HE MAY GIVE THE GOOD NEWS IN THE COMING DAYS"
Stating that Erdoğan is pulling all the stops to win the election, Portakal said, "That is why he may give the good news about the minimum wage in the coming days."
MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENT FROM MINISTER IŞIKHAN
On November 21 of last year, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had stated the following:
"As in July, our principle is again not to let inflation crush [wages]. You know, the minimum wage was always once a year anyway. We are working on having only one raise again."
