A first for the Minimum Wage Determination Commission!
In the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which is expected to convene in December, 4 of the 5 members of the Türk-İş delegation will consist of minimum wage earners working in different professions such as waiters, gas station attendants, barbers, and butchers.
Millions of citizens have turned their eyes and ears to the 2024 minimum wage hike.
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which held its first meeting on December 7 last year, is expected to meet around the same dates this year.
Out of approximately 18 million social security (SSK) members, 6.6 million are minimum wage earners, and the increase affects many people, from employers to those with General Health Insurance, from voluntary insured individuals to women making tarhana at home, and from those receiving unemployment insurance to those making domestic and international debt payments.
The minimum wage is currently applied as a monthly gross of 13 thousand 414 liras, and a net of 11 thousand 402 liras after taxes and deductions.
A FIRST IN THE DETERMINATION COMMISSION: 4 MORE WORKERS WILL BE AT THE TABLE
A first will take place in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people, with five representatives each from workers, employers, and the government. Having invited one minimum wage earner to the meeting in previous years, Türk-İş will seat 4 minimum wage earners from different professions at the table this year.
Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay made the following statements regarding the issue:
"This year, 4 minimum wage earners from different professions will take part in the 5-person Türk-İş delegation in the commission. Along with one union representative from the Türk-İş management, 4 of our fellow workers from different professions such as non-unionized waiters, gas station attendants, barbers, and butchers will represent millions of minimum wage earners in the negotiations."
There is no official statement yet on the minimum wage hike; the expectation is that it will be in the 40-50 percent range.
