Frightening picture in the economy: Hunger threshold nears 35 thousand liras

According to the results of the research conducted by TÜRK-İŞ, the monthly food expenditure required for a family of four to have a healthy and balanced diet, also known as the hunger threshold, has been calculated at 34 thousand 587 TL. This means the hunger threshold is approaching 35 thousand liras.

POVERTY THRESHOLD AT 112 THOUSAND LIRAS

In addition to the hunger threshold, the total income required to maintain living standards was also announced. When rent, transportation, education, health, and other mandatory expenses are taken into account alongside food expenditures, the income required for a household to live humanely was determined to be 112 thousand 661 TL. This amount represents the sum needed to meet basic living requirements beyond just food expenses.

LIVING COST FOR A SINGLE WORKER HAS INCREASED

According to the research, the monthly cost of living for a single worker living alone has risen to 44 thousand 802 TL. This indicates that individual living costs have also increased significantly.

According to TÜRK-İŞ data, a deficit of 2 thousand 217 TL occurred in the budget of a worker living on minimum wage in just one month. As of the fourth month of the year, the difference between the cost of living for a person living on minimum wage and the minimum wage itself has reached 16 thousand 726 TL. This situation reveals that the living standards of those surviving on minimum wage are becoming more difficult and that they are facing a significant income deficit.

KITCHEN INFLATION HAS RISEN

According to TÜRK-İŞ data for April, the increase in food prices has reached remarkable levels. While monthly food inflation was recorded at 5.47 percent, annual food inflation rose to 43.9 percent. Furthermore, the annual average increase was determined to be 40.4 percent, and the 4-month increase was 14.74 percent.
