1500 TL minimum spending limit at restaurants in Istanbul! Does it really exist?
Claims regarding minimum spending limit practices at some restaurants in Istanbul have come to the agenda. While it was alleged that there is a mandatory spending requirement of 1500 TL to sit at a table, industry representatives and TÜRES President Ramazan Bingöl clarified these claims. Is a spending limit a legitimate practice? Will prices increase after the New Year? What are the prices at restaurants? Here are all the details...
Claims that some restaurants in Istanbul have imposed a minimum spending limit on their customers have sparked debate in the public eye. According to the allegations, in some restaurants, a minimum of 1500 TL must be spent to sit at a table. This practice has led to differing opinions among consumers and industry representatives.
STATEMENT RELEASED! IS THERE A 1500 TL SPENDING LIMIT PRACTICE?
Making a statement on the subject, Ramazan Bingöl, President of the Association of All Restaurants and Tourism Professionals (TÜRES), stated that the claims were unfounded. Bingöl said, "We have not been able to identify such a practice. If there is such a business, we would be the first to address it."
Bingöl also stated that it is not a correct practice for businesses to impose spending limits on customers.
HOW ARE PRICES DETERMINED?
Emphasizing that differences in restaurant prices vary according to location, Ramazan Bingöl said, "You cannot expect a business in Esenler and a business in Nişantaşı to offer similar prices. However, it is possible to find a business suitable for every budget."
WILL A SPENDING LIMIT BE APPLIED IN BOSPHORUS RESTAURANTS?
According to the news in Milliyet, Nihat Bingöl, a restaurant CEO, said that the spending limit practice has been tried by a few businesses in Istanbul. He stated, "Especially in some restaurants on the Bosphorus side, payments under 1500 TL are not accepted. This practice aims to increase the average revenue per person."
Bingöl added that he thinks such practices in Turkey will receive a negative reaction from consumers.
HOW MUCH ARE PRICES IN RESTAURANTS?
Price uncertainty and rising costs in the food sector are causing per-person fees in restaurants to increase. Currently in restaurants:
Per-person fees range between 600 TL and 2500 TL.
The cost of a nice meal for a family of 4 can reach at least 4000 TL.
WILL PRICES INCREASE AFTER THE NEW YEAR?
Both Ramazan Bingöl and Nihat Bingöl state that price increases after the New Year are inevitable. In particular, the raise to be made to the minimum wage and rising costs will be directly reflected in prices. However, industry representatives state that they will act more cautiously in price increases to prevent customer loss.
IS A SPENDING LIMIT A CORRECT PRACTICE?
While the imposition of a spending limit by restaurants to compensate for limited customer capacity is evaluated by some industry representatives as a revenue-increasing method, it causes dissatisfaction among consumers. According to experts, such practices could cause businesses to lose customers in the long run.
