4 different scenarios for the minimum wage hike: How much will it be?

The strongest hike scenarios for the 2025 minimum wage, which will directly and indirectly affect millions of people, have been announced.

While eyes are on the Minimum Wage Determination Commission's meeting in December, estimates regarding the minimum wage hike rates are also being closely followed.

Although work on the minimum wage hike has not yet begun, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan's statement, "I hope that an amount that everyone agrees on will be reached for the minimum wage," has brought various figures to the agenda.

Social Security Expert Murat Bal shared 4 scenarios for the minimum wage hike during a live broadcast on CNN Türk. These 4 hike scenarios are currently being discussed behind the scenes.

In the event of a 41.5 percent increase, the net minimum wage will rise to 24 thousand 58 liras.

In the event of a 42 percent hike in the minimum wage, the new salary will rise to 24 thousand 143 liras.

In the event of a 44 percent hike, which is the Central Bank's inflation forecast, it will rise to 24 thousand 483 liras net and 28 thousand 803 liras gross.

THE STRONGEST SCENARIO FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE HIKE

Social Security Expert Murat Bal stated the following:

"The inflation rate is particularly important. When the Minimum Wage Determination Commission meets, the labor side will certainly come to the table with a figure above inflation. Reports are being published by foreign credit rating agencies and major banks suggesting that increases should be based on targeted inflation rather than realized inflation.

I do not think this will happen. I believe negotiations will be conducted based on realized inflation. A welfare share must also be added on top of these figures.

The expectation has been raised to 44 percent.

In other words, in an environment where inflation is in the 42-44 percent range, a salary increase lower than this would have a negative impact on minimum wage earners, who are a low-income group."

HOW MUCH WILL THE 2025 MINIMUM WAGE HIKE BE?

We anticipate that the gross minimum wage will be around 28 thousand TL. I also believe that a welfare share should be included.
