Banks' deposit race as interest rate decision looms: Monthly earnings reach 250,000 TL!
Ahead of the Central Bank's interest rate decision on July 24, banks are drawing attention with high-rate deposit offers. With banks still offering interest rates above 50 percent, the 1-month return on 7 million TL has been revealed. Here are the details...
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) will hold its Monetary Policy Committee (PPK) meeting on Wednesday, July 24. The decision to be made regarding the policy rate at this meeting is eagerly awaited by the markets. It is projected that the policy rate, currently at 46.00 percent, may be lowered to 43.5.
EXPECTATION OF INTEREST RATE CUT PREVAILS
Economists and market actors are anticipating that the TCMB may begin an interest rate cutting cycle. This leads to a forecast that there may be a decline in deposit interest rates in the near future.
BANKS HAVE ALREADY ENTERED THE RACE
Before the Central Bank's decision, many banks are trying to attract investors with high deposit interest rates. The number of banks offering interest rates above 50 percent is significant. Investors are taking advantage of these rates to seize the opportunity for high short-term returns.
According to current banking data, the 1-month net return on 7 million TL deposited at a 50 percent interest rate is approximately 292,000 TL. This amount may vary depending on the rates offered by banks. The net return is calculated after the withholding tax deduction.
Since banks are expected to lower their rates following the Central Bank's interest rate decision, investors are choosing to take advantage of current high-interest opportunities. Some banks continue to offer high interest rates through limited-time campaigns.
Economic experts emphasize that investors lured by high interest returns should not ignore factors such as liquidity and maturity risk. Additionally, the possibility that deposit income may decrease over time during the interest rate cutting process should also be considered in investment strategies.
