Countdown begins for minimum wage hike: How much will the new wage be?

Eyes have turned to the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will hold its first meeting on December 10, regarding the minimum wage hike that millions of employees are eagerly awaiting.

The countdown has begun, and debates are circulating in the public sphere over whether the minimum wage hike will be determined based on realized inflation or target inflation.

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, December 10, to determine the minimum wage to be applied in 2025. In the 15-member commission consisting of representatives from workers, employers, and the government, the worker side will be represented by TÜRK-İŞ, and the employer side by TİSK.

WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE HIKE BE DETERMINED BASED ON REALIZED OR TARGET INFLATION?

Discussions continue regarding whether the minimum wage increase will be based on the realized inflation rate or the target inflation rate.

The Central Bank announced its year-end inflation forecast as 44 percent, with an upper band forecast of 46 percent.

If a raise is applied to the minimum wage based on the realized inflation rate, the increase is expected to be between 44 and 46 percent.

If the raise is based on target inflation, the increase rate is expected to remain in the 21-26 percent range.

MINIMUM WAGE HIKE SCENARIOS

Last year in January, the minimum wage was increased by 49.11 percent, raising it to 17 thousand 2 liras.

This year in January;

If a 25 percent raise is applied: The minimum wage will be 21 thousand 252 liras,

If a raise is applied according to the Central Bank's 44 percent forecast: 24 thousand 483 liras,

If a 21 percent increase is applied based on target inflation: 20 thousand 572 liras,

According to the upper band forecast of 26 percent: 21 thousand 422 liras,

With a 30 percent increase: 22 thousand 102 liras,

With a 40 percent increase: 23 thousand 802 liras,

According to the 41.5 percent forecast in the Medium-Term Program: It is projected to be 24 thousand 57 liras.
