Employers' minimum wage proposal revealed
As eyes turn to the Minimum Wage Determination Commission's meeting on December 10 to set the 2025 minimum wage, the figure that employers will bring to the bargaining table has been revealed.
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, consisting of representatives from workers, employers, and the government, to which millions of employees have turned their eyes and ears, will hold its first meeting on December 10.
At the meeting, which will be hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, employers will be represented by the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK), and the worker side will be represented by TÜRK-İŞ, as it is the confederation with the most members.
According to the probable scenarios regarding the minimum wage, the wages will take shape as follows:
“If a 20 percent raise is granted, the minimum wage will be 20 thousand 402 liras.
If a 25 percent raise is granted, the minimum wage will be 21 thousand 252 liras.
If a 30 percent raise is granted, the minimum wage will be 22 thousand 102 liras.
If a 35 percent raise is granted, the minimum wage will be 22 thousand 502 liras.
If a 40 percent raise is granted, the minimum wage will be 23 thousand 802 liras.”
TÜRK-İŞ President Ergün Atalay had said the following regarding the Minimum Wage Determination Commission meeting on December 10:
“The 2025 minimum wage needs to be at a level that will allow the worker and their family to live humanely according to the economic and social conditions of the day and that will be compatible with human dignity. Our colleagues will determine this figure in the coming days. This figure will come before the TÜRK-İŞ Presidential Board and will then be shared with the public. It is not possible to accept the figures being voiced by some circles and circulating around. Those figures are not figures that will make society happy.”
THE BOSSES' PROPOSAL
While there is curious anticipation regarding what the minimum wage will be in 2025, the employers' proposal has emerged.
According to the report in the Türkiye newspaper, which is known for its closeness to the government, it was claimed that the bosses would come to the bargaining table with the average of the realized inflation and the targeted inflation.
The bosses will propose a 32.5 percent raise, which is the average of 44 percent and 21 percent.
CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE IS 17 THOUSAND 2 LIRAS NET
The minimum wage is currently applied as a monthly gross of 20 thousand 2 liras and 50 kuruş for a worker, and 17 thousand 2 liras and 12 kuruş net after deductions.
The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer for one worker is 23 thousand 502 liras and 94 kuruş. Of this, 20 thousand 2 liras and 50 kuruş constitutes the gross minimum wage, 3 thousand 100 liras and 39 kuruş constitutes the social security premium, and 400 liras and 5 kuruş constitutes the employer's unemployment insurance fund.
HOW MUCH WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE IF A 32.5 PERCENT RAISE IS GRANTED?
If a 32.5 percent raise is applied to the current minimum wage of 17 thousand 2 TL, the minimum wage for 2025 will be 22 thousand 527 TL.
