Predictions regarding the minimum wage hike have begun to gain momentum. As 2025 approaches, millions of minimum wage earners are waiting for the rate of the upcoming raise. So, how much of a raise will be given to the minimum wage? What is the expectation for the 2025 minimum wage hike?
Here are the latest comments on the minimum wage ahead of the meetings.
LATEST STATUS ON MINIMUM WAGE HIKE EXPECTATIONS
Financial Advisor İsmet Çetinkaya, who made important statements on the subject during a CNN Türk broadcast, said the following:
“Although the minimum wage is a figure expected by employees, it is an index that affects nearly 85 million of our citizens. There are expectations here. There are statements from Minister Şimşek, Minister Işıkhan, and statements from TÜRK-İŞ.
There are different expectations this year. Until 2 weeks ago, there was talk of a 25 percent rate. If it is 25 percent, the minimum wage would be 21 thousand 250 liras. I do not think there will be a 25 percent minimum wage increase.
Last week, the Central Bank revised its inflation expectations. If there is a 30 percent increase, it will be 22 thousand 102 TL; if there is a 35 percent increase, it will be 22 thousand 952 liras. If there is a 40 percent raise, it will be 23 thousand 802, and if there is a 50 percent increase, it will be 25 thousand 503 liras. My expectation is that a minimum wage of 23 thousand 462 liras will be announced by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission with a 38 percent increase.
Minister Şimşek had said he hopes a minimum wage will be announced that will not disrupt the balance of the market and will not strain competitiveness. Minister Işıkhan had made a statement that the minimum wage would not crush employees against inflation. In line with the statements of the two ministers, I think a rate close to inflation will be announced.”
