Millions of people in Turkey are researching retirement conditions and different ways to retire. While approximately 2.5 million people achieved early retirement with the EYT regulation, citizens who do not fall under the scope of EYT or have not reached the retirement age are curious about the details of disability retirement.

It is possible to retire due to disability without an age requirement and by paying fewer premiums. For this, it is necessary to have certain diseases and for the Social Security Institution (SGK) to certify that the person has lost 60 percent of their working capacity. So, which diseases provide the most eligibility for disability retirement?

11 THOUSAND PEOPLE RETIRED DUE TO DISABILITY IN 2024

Former SGK Chief Inspector İsa Karakaş announced the SGK's 2024 data. Accordingly, this year;

7 thousand 962 SSK insured,

2 thousand 622 Bağ-Kur insured,

722 civil servants, totaling 11 thousand 306 people retired due to disability.

THE RANKING HAS NOT CHANGED FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS

The ranking in the disability retirement disease list, which the SGK updates every year, has not changed since 2020. The diseases that most frequently grant the right to disability retirement are, in order;

Oncological diseases (cancer)

Psychiatric diseases

Neurological diseases

Those who have one or more of these diseases can apply for disability retirement when they meet the necessary conditions.

10 YEARS OF INSURANCE IS SUFFICIENT!

For disability retirement, a 10-year insurance period and at least 1,800 days of premium payments are required. However, the 10-year insurance requirement is not sought for those who are in a condition where they cannot work.

Those who have lost at least 60 percent of their professional earning capacity due to a work accident or occupational disease related to their health conditions can apply to SGK directorates to retire due to disability.
