Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek and Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz had announced that the government would take action for social housing projects.

ENCOURAGING FAMILY FORMATION

While the Population Policy Board held its first meeting yesterday to increase the fertility rate, which has been declining due to many reasons such as the economy and working life, Yılmaz stated in his opening speech, "In order to encourage family formation, we will implement social housing programs that prioritize young couples with financial support, marriage counseling, and those buying their first home."

On the other hand, Şimşek also stated in his speech at the 2024 Evaluation and 2025 Expectations program organized by MÜSİAD that low-interest loans would be provided to those buying a home for the first time. Stating that 250,000 social housing units will be built in 2025, Şimşek said, "We will facilitate home purchases with budget support and favorable financing options."

Minister Şimşek, who announced that applications for social housing projects will begin in the last quarter of 2025, said that the details regarding the project will be announced in the coming period.

While no details regarding the projects were included in the statements from Şimşek and Yılmaz, opportunists took action immediately after the announcements.

Hours after the statements, the expectation that the housing market would revive led to price hikes of up to 500,000 lira in a single day for homes listed online.
