Grant agreement signed for project submitted to the United Nations Environment Fund
The grant agreement for a project prepared by the Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry in 2020 as part of the fight against climate change and submitted to the United Nations Environment Fund has been signed.
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ender Muhammed Gümüş, Project Coordinator Yurdal Çetinkaya, and project officer Mutlu Subaşı attended the project agreement signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Relations. Within the framework of the project, the United Nations Environment Fund provided a grant of 4.5 million lira for the climate activities project to be carried out in the Çifteler and Sivrihisar districts of Eskişehir.
Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ender Muhammed Gümüş stated the following in his statement regarding the project:
“Our 'Project for the Implementation and Dissemination of a Climate Change Resilient Agricultural Production Model in Eskişehir Province,' which we created before the pandemic, received a very high score during the preliminary review stage. Upon this, the UNDP (United Nations Environment Fund) deemed our project, which we had detailed, worthy of receiving a grant. We are very excited because our project has the characteristic of being a model for projects to be created not only for Eskişehir agriculture but also for the country's agriculture. While grant funds outside of Turkey generally include learning-by-traveling activities such as Erasmus+, our project includes a research, development, and investment-oriented approach. Our project includes activities such as the enrichment of groundwater, the absorption and utilization of floodwaters caused by sudden rainfall by the soil, the improvement of the water-holding capacity of soils, increasing the forage yield of pastures, and the dissemination of dry farming practices. These activities will be concentrated in our Çifteler and Sivrihisar districts, where our Sakarya River is born and fed. I would like to express my gratitude to our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which supports our project, and our partners: the Odunpazarı Chamber of Agriculture and the Sakaryabaşı Irrigation Association. I hope that our project will bring prosperity to our country's agriculture, especially to Eskişehir's agriculture.”
The contract ceremony ended with the exchange of well wishes and the taking of commemorative photos.
