He delivered the bad news: Deniz Zeyrek shares insider information on minimum wage and pension hikes

As the Turkish Lira loses value due to high inflation and rising exchange rates, the rate of the hike to be applied to the minimum wage and pensions in 2024 is awaited with curiosity.

The first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission will take place on December 11.

While millions of employees have turned their eyes and ears to this critical meeting, journalist Deniz Zeyrek shared new insider information regarding the minimum wage and pensions on Sözcü TV.

Zeyrek stated that pensioners and minimum wage earners might receive a hike of around 10 percent at the end of the year, but that this would also be eroded by inflation.

"I DO NOT EXPECT EXTRAORDINARY HIKES"

Touching upon the issue of base salaries in pensions, Zeyrek stated that the gap would again be covered by the Treasury. Stating, "I do not expect any extraordinary hikes," Zeyrek also made assertive remarks regarding the period after April 1.

Zeyrek used the following expressions;

“If the decision to increase it once a year had not been made, they were going to set the minimum wage at 15 thousand 800 TL. However, because they will increase it once a year, they are at the point of setting it at 17 thousand TL. This also works in the state's favor. The state collects taxes from there. The minimum wage is not like civil servant and pension salaries, meaning employers will pay this. The state can, of course, lower the tax it collects from the employer.

'ŞİMŞEK IS ACTING LIKE AN IMF COMMISSIONER'

But the state is not compromising on this. Mr. Mehmet Şimşek is acting like an IMF commissioner. He is showing a reaction because they expanded the scope of the 5 thousand TL pension bonus. An unnamed IMF program is being implemented. Therefore, I do not expect any extraordinary hikes.

It could ease the employer's burden. The employer could reflect that amount to the worker. Thus, the worker's welfare could also increase. This money will place a burden on the employer. The lowest pension will also be 10 thousand 500 TL. I do not expect an extraordinary hike to be made.”

HOW MUCH WILL 2024 CIVIL SERVANT SALARIES BE?

Zeyrek stated, "Civil servant salaries will also be around 31 thousand TL. There is an 8 thousand 070 TL flat raise there as well. That might increase a little, it could be raised to 10 thousand TL. However, the civil servant's base salary will still be low. In other words, the civil servant's base salary will still be 22-23 thousand TL."

Reminding that there will be no elections for another 4 years after April 1, Zeyrek said, "A terrifying austerity policy will be adopted. Otherwise, it is impossible to reach these targets."
