Historic surge in quince prices: Both consumers and producers complain about the hikes

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the quince production volume, which was 203,000 tons last year, has decreased significantly following the agricultural frost disaster in 2025. This major drop in production has caused market prices for quince to skyrocket.

While quince is being sold for 298.80 liras per kilogram in some markets in Bursa, prices in other stores are seen to range from 150 liras up to 250 liras. Even in regions that are major players in quince production, such as the Osmaneli district of Bilecik, the price of the product has climbed to 250 liras per kilogram.

The agricultural frost disaster negatively impacted both the harvest and the yield, particularly in the Osmaneli region. Quince, which is one of the most important sources of income for the local economy, has failed to satisfy either the producer or the consumer this year. There has been a significant loss in both domestic and foreign markets for Osmaneli quince, which is also the raw material for high-value-added products such as Turkish delight, molasses, and jam.

The quantity of the product exported to countries such as Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium last year has also dwindled to almost nothing.

While producers struggle with low yields and high costs caused by the agricultural frost, consumers are complaining that having quince on their tables has become almost a "luxury."
