The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) has announced the March results of the ZEW Economic Sentiment Index, which measures the expectations of institutional investors and analysts for the next 6 months. The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) has shared the March results of the ZEW Economic Sentiment Index, which measures the expectations of institutional investors and analysts for the next 6 months. According to the results, the economic sentiment index rose from 19.9 to 31.7 during this period; the expectation was 20.5. The current conditions index also increased from minus 81.7 to minus 80.5.
In his assessment, ZEW President Prof. Dr. Achim Wambach stated that expectations have improved significantly and that more than 80 percent of survey participants expect interest rate cuts from the ECB within the next 6 months. Europe's largest economy is expected to contract in the first quarter of this year, thereby entering a recession.
HOPES FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY HAVE INCREASED
In recent months, the manufacturing industry has been the weakest area of the country's economy due to the impact of weak global demand and high interest rates. However, the slowdown in inflation and the increase in household incomes have raised hopes that the economy will recover in the remainder of the year.
The ECB is expected to ease the burden on companies and consumers by starting interest rate cuts in the near future. Bank officials are signaling that interest rate cuts could begin in June.
