Hotel prices skyrocket: Holiday dreams for Eid al-Adha will cost a fortune

With the extension of the Eid al-Adha holiday to 9 days, a major travel surge is expected across Turkey. While an economic volume of approximately 180 billion liras is projected in the tourism sector, rising costs and increasing prices are complicating citizens' holiday plans.

Cost increases in the hotel sector have pushed hotel prices up by 25 percent compared to last year for the Eid al-Adha holiday, which coincides with the summer season this year. According to experts, rising inflation and general economic conditions have been influential in the increase in hotel prices.

Speaking to the pro-government Türkiye newspaper, Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) President Firuz Bağlıkaya stated that 10 million citizens are expected to travel during Eid al-Adha and said the following:

“Cultural tours are particularly preferred during the holiday. However, due to the warming weather during this period, there is also demand for coastal hotels in the southern regions. Demand is primarily concentrated in Mediterranean, Aegean, and TRNC destinations. Destinations such as Antalya, Muğla, Aydın, İzmir, and Balıkesir are preferred in this context. For our citizens who prefer nature and thermal holidays, destinations like Afyon and Sapanca provide alternatives. In terms of nature and cultural tours, the Black Sea, Cappadocia, and the GAP region are areas where demand is high.”

While hotel prices reach an average of up to 450 euros per person, difficulties can also be experienced in finding vacancies, especially in popular holiday regions. This situation affects both the budgets of vacationers and the expectations of sector representatives.
