How did the stock market close? (April 8, 2024)
The BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul ended the day at 9,756.69 points with a 1.43 percent gain, marking its highest daily close of all time, while also setting a new record high of 9,766.57 points.
The BIST 100 index rose by 137.87 points compared to the previous close, with a total trading volume of 103.4 billion lira. The banking index gained 0.84 percent, and the holding index rose by 0.25 percent.
While all sector indices saw gains, the information technology sector was the top performer with a 6.01 percent increase.
Analysts stated that global equity markets began the week with a mixed trend as uncertainty persists regarding the timing and scale of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve (Fed), and that a busy data agenda, primarily the inflation data to be released in the US and the European Central Bank's (ECB) interest rate decision, has become the focus of investors.
Noting that trading on the stock exchange will continue until 12:40 PM tomorrow due to the Eve of Eid, analysts recorded that from a technical perspective, the 9,800 level is resistance for the BIST 100 index, while 9,600 and 9,500 points serve as support levels.
