How did the stock market start the first trading day of the week? (September 16, 2024)

The stock market started the week flat.

At the opening, the BIST 100 index rose by 1.40 points and 0.01 percent compared to the previous close, reaching 9,686.89 points.

While the banking index lost 0.08 percent in value, the holding index gained 0.04 percent. Among the sector indices, the biggest gainer was informatics with 0.68 percent, while the biggest decliner was mining with 0.63 percent.

On Friday, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul, which followed a buying-weighted trend, completed the day with a 1.73 percent gain at 9,685.49 points.

Global markets started the week cautiously as they await monetary policy decisions from major central banks, primarily the US Federal Reserve (Fed), while eyes in Turkey have turned to the interest rate decision of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB).

Analysts stated that the budget balance will be monitored domestically today, while the foreign trade balance in the Eurozone and the New York Fed manufacturing index in the US will be followed abroad, noting that technically, the 9,750 and 9,850 levels are resistance, and the 9,550 and 9,400 point levels are support for the BIST 100 index.
