The Producer Price Index (PPI) announced in the US yesterday rose by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis and 2.1 percent on an annual basis in March, coming in below expectations.

Analysts stated that while the increase in producer prices, which remained below estimates following the consumer inflation data that came in stronger than expected, slightly eased investors' concerns regarding inflation, the views of Fed officials that there is no need to rush to lower interest rates are influencing the direction of asset prices.

New York Fed President John Williams stated yesterday that there is no need for a rate cut in the near term, while Boston Fed President Susan Collins indicated that fewer rate cuts might be needed this year. Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin, on the other hand, conveyed that the latest data did not increase his confidence that price pressures across the economy are easing on a broader basis.

Stating that the University of Michigan consumer confidence index will be monitored in the US today, analysts noted that technically, the 106 and 107 levels stand out as resistance for the dollar index, while 105 and 104 stand out as support.
