How much will the minimum wage be? Here is the figure on the table

High inflation and the rising exchange rate continue to decrease the value of the Turkish Lira day by day.

While the government says, 'We will not let our employees be crushed by inflation,' millions of citizens are waiting with curiosity to see what the minimum wage will be in the new year. 

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan gave a presentation on his ministry's budget at the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee. 

MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINATION COMMISSION TO MEET IN DECEMBER

Işıkhan gave messages regarding the bargaining process for the minimum wage hike and the regulations to be made for pension salaries. Emphasizing that the minimum wage is one of the ministry's fundamental issues, Işıkhan said, "We will convene our Minimum Wage Determination Commission in December. There, our preference will again be for a decision that will not let them be crushed by inflation."

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Sabah, based on the year-end inflation forecast of 65 percent, the 6-month inflation is expected to be close to 38 percent. The increase rate for civil servants and retired civil servants, along with the collective bargaining agreement, exceeds 49 percent. With the addition of a welfare share, an increase of nearly 50 percent is also possible.

HOW MUCH WILL THE NEW MINIMUM WAGE BE?

Currently, the net minimum wage is applied as 11 thousand 402.32 TL. If the civil servant salary increase is taken as a basis, the net figure will rise to 17 thousand 103.48 TL with a 50 percent increase.

If it is decided to make an increase based on 6-month inflation, the new net minimum wage will be 15 thousand 735.20 TL. Looking at the statements made by the government and the increases made to date, it is seen that minimum wage increases have always been above inflation.

Therefore, increasing the 38 percent 6-month inflation rate to 50 percent with a welfare share stands as an expected outcome. In this case, it appears that the new minimum wage will exceed 17 thousand liras.
