IETT's 2024 budget has been approved
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Council has approved the 2024 fiscal budget for the General Directorate of Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Operations (IETT) at 29 billion 400 million Turkish Lira.
The third session of the IBB Council's November meeting was held at the municipal building in Saraçhane, presided over by the Council's 2nd Deputy Speaker Ömer Faruk Kalaycı.
The institution's 2024 fiscal budget was discussed during the IETT General Assembly held at the Council.
IETT General Manager İrfan Demet gave a presentation on the 2023 budget and performance program at the Council.
Demet stated that 60 percent of urban public transportation in Istanbul is carried out by bus and metrobus, 37 percent by metro and tram, and 3 percent by sea transport.
Noting that more than half of public transportation in Istanbul is conducted via rubber-tired vehicles, Demet emphasized that the number of IETT passengers continues to increase despite investments in rail systems.
Reporting that IETT operates 55 thousand trips daily across 800 lines, Demet stated that they cover 477 million kilometers per year, facilitating a total of 1 billion 300 million journeys.
In the vote held following the speeches, the IETT 2024 fiscal year budget was approved with 161 votes in favor and 11 against.
