IMF announces: What is Turkey's per capita income?

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its World Economic Outlook report, which it publishes twice a year. According to the report, while Turkey's per capita national income was 1,500 dollars above the world average 10 years ago, it has now fallen 500 dollars below it.

SLIPPED 6 PLACES IN THE LAST 10 YEARS

According to the report published by the IMF in April 2024, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Turkey in 2023 was 12,849 US dollars. With this income, Turkey ranked 72nd in the world.

In 2013, the GDP per capita in Turkey was 12,489 dollars. Turkey was ranked 66th in the per capita national income rankings in 2013. In this case, Turkey has slipped 6 places in the last 10 years.

FELL BEHIND

While Turkey's per capita national income was 1,554 dollars above the world average in 2013, it fell to 510 dollars below it in 2023.

When comparing the world average with Turkey's per capita national income over a longer period, the following result emerges: At the beginning of the 2000s, Turkey was behind the world average. However, starting from 2007, Turkey moved above it and maintained a significantly higher income until 2017.

Since 2017, Turkey has consistently remained below the world average. Looking at other data, while Turkey accounted for 1.24 percent of the world economy in 2013, this rate fell to 1.06 percent in 2023.

IT WAS THE 16TH LARGEST ECONOMY

Accordingly, in 2023, the per capita national income based on purchasing power in Turkey was 42,064 dollars. Its ranking was 52nd. In 2013, this value was 22,221 dollars, and Turkey's ranking was 61st.

According to information compiled by Euronews; while Turkey has shown progress in the per capita national income ranking based on purchasing power over the last 10 years, it has regressed in the per capita national income ranking.

When looking at the economic sizes of countries in terms of GDP, Turkey became the world's 18th largest economy in 2023. According to the IMF, Turkey's GDP was 1.11 trillion dollars.

In 2013, Turkey was the world's 16th largest economy.
