IMF Managing Director on the global economy: 'We are extremely confident...'

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva made assessments regarding the global economy at the World Governments Summit held in Dubai.

In her statement, Georgieva pointed out that interest rates were raised last year at a pace not seen in decades, saying, "We are extremely confident that the global economy is on track for the soft landing we have been dreaming of for some time."

Regarding the possibility of interest rate cuts in leading economies such as the US, Georgieva said, "I expect that by mid-year at the latest, interest rates will begin to move in the same direction as inflation did last year."

"IT COULD AFFECT THE ECONOMIES OF MANY COUNTRIES"

Warning that the possibility of unexpected situations occurring following the coronavirus pandemic should be taken into account, Georgieva stated that if the war between Israel and Hamas continues, it will affect the economies of many countries.

Georgieva said, "I fear the conflict will drag on because (if) it continues, the risk of spillover also increases."
