Important decision from the Ministry for OIZs

The major Istanbul earthquake expected in many regions, particularly in the Marmara region where the heart of industrial production beats, poses a serious threat not only to human life but also to economic activities. Taking this risk into account, the Ministry of Industry and Technology has added an important earthquake-focused heading to its 2030 strategic plan.

As reported by NTV, the plan aims to relocate organized industrial zones to safer and disaster-resilient areas. In the first step, the Ministry will conduct a detailed risk analysis for existing industrial zones. As a result of this analysis, new and safe areas will be proposed to businesses under threat.

NO PERMISSION FOR ZONES WITHOUT DISASTER ASSURANCE

The primary condition for newly established organized industrial zones will be whether the area is resistant to disasters. These zones will be built to meet modern infrastructure needs. If relocation is not possible, structural reinforcement works will be implemented in existing industrial areas. Thus, the aim is to both protect production capacity and ensure employee safety.

RAILWAYS AND PORTS WILL BE AT THE FOREFRONT

New organized industrial zones will be located in positions that are not only safe but also logistically advantageous. Railway and port connections will be prioritized. Private sector investments will be encouraged and alternative financing sources will be activated to strengthen this transport infrastructure.
