Inflation statement from Minister Şimşek: 'Realistic and consistent targets...'

According to TURKSTAT data, inflation increased by 2.93 percent in December, reaching 64.77 percent on an annual basis. ENAG inflation was recorded at 127.21 percent annually.

Following the announcement, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made statements on his X account regarding the inflation figures.

Şimşek stated the following:

"Thanks to the realistic and consistent targets of the program we are implementing, we have increased predictability.

The 2023 year-end outcomes are in line with our program, and we are meeting our revised targets.

With the continued decline in monthly inflation, year-end inflation stood at 64.8 percent.

Annualized core indicators continue to follow a path consistent with our 2024 target.

We anticipate that growth and the current account deficit will be in line with our targets.

The 2023 budget deficit will be well below our target.

In 2024, we will continue to do whatever is necessary to achieve the goals of our program, primarily inflation."
