Inheritance dispute in the Mermer family: Father and son head to court

A family feud at Mermerler Şirketler Grubu — which operates across multiple sectors including food, defence, tourism, and transportation — has been brought before the courts. Yüksel Mermer, a well-known figure in the business world, is being accused of fraud by his son Zafer Murat Mermer. Zafer Murat Mermer filed a criminal complaint against his father and his cousin Serkan Samrıoğlu, alleging that certain shares in the family companies were unlawfully taken from him.

In petitions submitted to the Istanbul and Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, Zafer Murat Mermer levelled accusations of "organised fraud," "threats," and "forgery of official documents" against his father Yüksel Mermer and other family members. It is also being said that Yüksel Mermer, regarded as a well-liked figure in the business community, would not be involved in such a crime, and that there may be other reasons behind the events.

THREAT ALLEGATIONS

Zafer Murat Mermer had previously applied to the police in April, stating that his cousin Serkan Samrıoğlu had threatened him with death. Following this allegation, the prosecutor's office launched an investigation into Serkan Samrıoğlu. It also emerged that Serkan Samrıoğlu is the son-in-law of renowned artist Yasemin Yalçın.
