Investigation launched into AI-supported advertisements on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge

An investigation had been launched into the matter, which spread on social media with a perception of reality and was brought to the agenda by Habertürk regarding its artificial intelligence dimension.

Acting on the instructions of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the General Directorate of Highways determined that the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, which provides passage across the Bosphorus, was used without authorization in the advertising and marketing activities of two companies, and filed a criminal complaint against the company officials.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that artificial intelligence work is a system developed to make people's lives easier and to minimize the margin of human error in certain areas, saying, "We do not believe it is right for works that have become symbols for our country to be used in a way that manipulates the consumer. We have made our legal applications regarding this matter. Artificial intelligence work must also be carried out correctly and based on facts.

Therefore, just as nothing can be hung on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, which provides passage across the Bosphorus, without permission, and since only vehicles of a certain tonnage can pass over it, the use of visuals outside of this and the perception management efforts both mislead the consumer and create a vulnerability in terms of security.

For this reason, we have initiated the legal process against two brands that were understood to have used the 15 July Martyrs Bridge in content created with artificial intelligence, due to its unauthorized use in advertising and marketing activities. A criminal complaint has been filed by our relevant general directorate against the company officials with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. We will continue to follow the matter from here on out," he said.
