Iranian currency melting: Dollar at historic high
The local currency has experienced its largest devaluation in history as the US dollar reached the 184,000 toman level on the free market in Iran.
In Iran, the selling price of the US dollar on the free market has climbed to an all-time high of 184,000 tomans. This rapid decline in the value of the national currency in recent times highlights the impact of economic pressures and imposed international sanctions.
Before the attacks launched by the US and Israel on February 28, one US dollar was around 160,000 tomans. In the days following the start of the conflict, the dollar exchange rate had even retreated to the 135,000 toman level for a period. However, over the subsequent period, the toman has once again fallen sharply due to both war conditions and the impact of heavy US economic sanctions.
