Istanbul's May inflation figures have been announced. In May, the ITO Istanbul Consumer Price Index, which serves as an indicator of retail price movements in Istanbul, recorded a monthly increase of 1.53 percent. The annual rate of change, which shows price variations in Istanbul in May 2026 compared to May 2025, was recorded at 36.77 percent in the ITO Istanbul Consumer Price Index (2023=100 base).

In May 2026, the Istanbul Consumer Price Index showed the following changes compared to the previous month: a 4.14 percent increase in the Restaurants and Hotels expenditure group, 3 percent in the Housing group, 2.70 percent in Entertainment and Culture, 2.07 percent in Household Goods, 1.84 percent in Clothing and Footwear, 1.47 percent in Communication, 1.25 percent in Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 0.96 percent in Education, 0.86 percent in Transportation, 0.83 percent in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, and 0.53 percent in Health, while a 0.03 percent decrease was observed in the Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco expenditure group.

The determination of the May 2026 price index in Istanbul was influenced by market conditions for products and services in the Restaurants and Hotels expenditure group, price changes linked to the summer season and holiday effects, price changes based on market conditions for certain products and services in the Housing and Entertainment and Culture expenditure groups, and the continued effect of seasonal transitions in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages expenditure group. In May 2026, the highest group increase was observed in the Restaurants and Hotels expenditure group (4.14 percent), while the highest group decrease was observed in the Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco expenditure group (0.03 percent).
