Istanbul's inflation figures announced

Istanbul's inflation figures announced

Retail prices in Istanbul rose once again in March. The Istanbul Consumer Price Index, which reflects the city's economic activity, drew attention with a 2.97 percent increase compared to the previous month. Price changes reached even higher rates on an annual basis; the increase was calculated at 37.68 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

Looking at wholesale prices, the increase in the index, which was 1.00 percent in February, accelerated to 1.54 percent in March. The rate of change in the wholesale price index compared to the same month last year was 18.92 percent; in the last one-year average, this increase reached the 23.34 percent level.

Significant fluctuations were observed in the sub-items of the wholesale price index in March 2026. While there was a 3.65 percent increase in food products, a 2.80 percent rise was recorded in fuel and energy products, 1.91 percent in construction materials, and 0.73 percent in minerals. In contrast, a decrease of -0.13 percent was observed in the unprocessed materials group and -6.90 percent in the chemical substances category. There was no change in textile products.

Looking at the annual average increases, rises were recorded at 34.61 percent in construction materials, 26.78 percent in food products, 24.45 percent in minerals, 22.46 percent in textiles, 20.72 percent in fuel and energy, 16.17 percent in unprocessed materials, and 13.43 percent in chemical substances.
