Labor Minister Vedat Işıkhan delivers bad news for minimum wage earners

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan made statements regarding the minimum wage ahead of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will convene in December.

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, Işıkhan stated, "As you know, the minimum wage was always once a year. We are working on having only a single raise again."

'WE DO NOT THINK IT WILL BE NECESSARY'

Stating that they do not think a second raise for the minimum wage will be necessary, Işıkhan spoke as follows:

"The decision needs to be published in the Official Gazette as of December 31. Therefore, it will be like what we did last July. As you know, the minimum wage was always once a year. We are working on having only a single raise again.

Last July was an extra. That happened after a need arose with the foresight of our President. But if a need arises, we can come together.

Hopefully, there will be a decline in inflation next year. We will not hold a second meeting in July; we do not think a second raise will be necessary. Because all parameters are going well."
