Major investment in Spain from Microsoft

US technology giant Microsoft has announced that it plans to invest 1 billion 950 million euros in Spain during 2024 and 2025 to deploy artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Microsoft President Brad Smith announced the investment in Spain in a post on his X account following a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during his visit to Madrid today.

Prime Ministerial sources stated that this investment by Microsoft will be directed toward infrastructure services to promote digital innovation and the use of artificial intelligence.

While it is known that Microsoft has been operating in Spain for 37 years, the investment plan includes the establishment of a cloud-based data center in the capital, Madrid, and a data center campus in the Aragon region in the north of the country.

It was stated that this investment is intended to serve public institutions and the private sector in Spain and Europe, and that it will work to improve citizen services, promote AI-based innovation, and strengthen national cybersecurity. It is also noted that there will be collaboration with the Spanish government on projects under the "National Artificial Intelligence Strategy" and the "National Cybersecurity Strategy."

The official Spanish news agency EFE reports that this investment by Microsoft is expected to contribute 8.4 billion euros to the country's Gross Domestic Product and create 69 thousand jobs in the 2026-2030 period.

Prime Minister Sanchez emphasized in a post on his X account that "public-private sector cooperation is crucial to successfully address the challenges of digital transformation."
