Mehmet Şimşek reveals the cost of 'resignation' rumors

Regarding the resignation rumors about him, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated, "Following these baseless claims, there was a massive capital outflow from Turkey. These anxieties, uncertainties, and such claims unfortunately have a cost. They have a cost to the country. I believe this is an effort directed at the program," he said.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek made statements regarding the agenda during a live broadcast on CNN Türk.

"I HAVE NO INTEREST IN TITLES"

Regarding the 'resignation' rumors, Şimşek said the following:

"I find it difficult to understand. Let me say this sincerely. Our President invited me after the election and entrusted me with this responsibility. I act with this sense of responsibility. I have no political agenda. I have no interest in titles. When our President was Prime Minister, he provided the opportunity for me to return to Turkey, and I found the chance to serve my country. It is truly a great honor for us. I have no personal agenda here, no political agenda. Other than assisting our President in balancing the economy and solving problems, I truly have no other motivation or agenda. Therefore, I have no other goal than to serve our beautiful country."

"THERE WAS A MASSIVE CAPITAL OUTFLOW FROM TURKEY"

When asked if the resignation rumors had a cost, Minister Şimşek replied:

"The cost is huge. At the beginning of August, there was a small turbulence originating from Japan. The Japanese had borrowed money because interest rates were low. They converted it to dollars and bought American stocks. When some data came out in the US and concerns arose about 'whether there would be a recession,' the Bank of Japan made a small interest rate hike. The Yen also appreciated. They had sold these short. They had to return to the Yen, and there was turbulence there. This was at the beginning of August. Its impact on us was limited.

For example, following these baseless claims, there was a massive capital outflow from Turkey. Especially offshore, meaning external resources; because they became anxious. Therefore, these anxieties, uncertainties, and such claims unfortunately have a cost. They have a cost to the country. First, of course, it was denied by the disinformation unit. We thought, 'that should be it.' Despite that, unfortunately, these rumors continued and were somehow served to the outside. I believe this is an effort directed at the program. I don't know who is spreading this, whether from inside or outside; it is very clear that they are not doing the country any favors. Because this program is a team effort, but it is associated with me to some extent abroad. They are going after it through that. They are attacking us so much on a personal level that I find it difficult to make sense of it."
