Mehmet Şimşek's tax drive continues: 'There will be no untaxed area left'
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that comprehensive audits targeting the unregistered earnings of individuals generating income online are ongoing. The efforts, which aim to increase tax compliance, do not allow for tax evasion.
The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has intensified its audits targeting those who generate income through online activities such as individual consulting, coaching, theta healing, and meditation, but do not declare these earnings.
Minister Mehmet Şimşek expressed their determination to leave no area untaxed.
SPECIAL REGULATION FOR SOCIAL MEDIA INCOME
A simplified taxation method had previously been introduced for those earning income through social media. According to this method, income earners are required to obtain an exemption certificate and open a special bank account. Banks deduct a 15 percent income tax from the money deposited into these accounts. If the income does not exceed 3 million liras, this deduction is accepted as the final tax.

WHERE WILL THE TAX INCREASE BE USED?
Şimşek stated that those generating unregistered income are being invited to provide an explanation and that those who comply will pay lower penalties. However, he emphasized that those who do not comply will be subject to tax inspections.
“We will use the increase in tax revenues for the welfare of our citizens and the stability of our country,” said Şimşek, adding that tax justice is their primary priority.
