MHP signals radical changes for the pension system
MHP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Kalaycı stated that regulations are needed in the pension system regarding the number of premium days, salary calculations, and monthly increase methods. In his assessment of budget data, Kalaycı expressed that new arrangements for retirees and employees could be possible.
MHP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Kalaycı stated that there are structural problems in the pension system stemming from the number of premium days and salary calculations, and announced that regulations must be made in these areas.
Kalaycı also made assessments regarding the change in the non-interest cash balance, stating that new arrangements could be made for retirees and employees.
ASSESSMENT REGARDING PREMIUM DAYS AND SALARY CALCULATIONS
Kalaycı used the following expressions in his statement regarding the pension system:
"The balance between premiums and salaries has been disrupted. Those who have paid premiums for 30-40 years and those who have paid for 10 years have reached a point where they receive almost the same salary. In other words, a radical regulation is required here. Inequalities between pension payments should be eliminated in a way that ensures the premium-salary balance. There is even a difference in salary increases. SSK and BAĞ-KUR pension payments are increased according to different criteria, while civil servant pension payments are increased according to others. These need to be subject to a single criterion. Furthermore, regarding the number of premium days, SSK members are subject to 7,200 days of premiums, while BAĞ-KUR members are subject to 9,000 days. Regulations need to be made on these issues."
STATEMENT REGARDING BUDGET DATA
Stating that the February 6 earthquakes created a significant cost for the budget, Kalaycı expressed that investment expenditures in the earthquake zone have been largely completed. Referring to the Treasury's first six-month cash balance data, Kalaycı made the following assessment:
"Investment expenditures made in the earthquake zone are almost finished. I looked at the six-month treasury cash balance; while it was 1 trillion 293 billion last year, it has fallen to 1 trillion 57 billion liras this year. When we look at the non-interest cash balance, while there was a 270 billion non-interest deficit, a cash deficit last year, we have a non-interest surplus of 368 billion in the first six months of this year. This is a positive development. In other words, we see that there will be an opportunity to make arrangements that will ease the hand of the treasury, make budget opportunities more favorable, and in this sense, meet the expectations of our retirees and employees."
