Minimum Wage Determination Commission to hold its second meeting today

Economic data and reports will be discussed at the second meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will be held tomorrow as part of the efforts to determine the minimum wage that will be valid in the new year.

The process continues for determining the new minimum wage, which directly concerns 7 million employees and indirectly affects all citizens.

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which held its first meeting on December 11 hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will hold its second meeting today.

At this meeting, which is important for determining the framework of the negotiations, basic economic data will be put on the table.

It is expected that representatives from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Ministry of Trade, and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) will share economic data and reports with the commission at the meeting.

The worker and employer sides, who have not yet mentioned any figures, will begin negotiations after the presentation of the aforementioned economic data and reports.

4 WORKERS EXPLAINED THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, who delivered the opening speech at the first meeting where 4 workers were present for the first time, stated that as the government, they aim to act as a mediator and determine the new minimum wage figure with the consensus of workers and employers.

Later, Özgür Burak Akkol, Chairman of the Board of the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK), also said that they desire to complete the process with a balanced figure and consensus.

TÜRK-İŞ Deputy Chairman Ramazan Ağar, on the other hand, criticized the inflation data and requested that the new minimum wage be in line with the expectations of workers and society.

Following the opening speeches, the floor was given to the commission members. Hatice Akgedik, who works as a hospital worker in Adana; Meliha Nur Şıkbudak, who works as a cashier in Ankara; Saffet Canbaz, an energy worker living in Çorum; and Durmuş Öztürk, a highway worker in Bolu, all of whom were in the TÜRK-İŞ delegation, explained their living conditions and expressed their demands for a wage that would allow them to make a living in the new year.

HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people, with five representatives each from the workers, employers, and the government, as required by law.

The commission meets on certain dates in December as part of its efforts to determine the new minimum wage.

The commission, chaired by one of the members appointed by the Ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the side with the chairman is considered to have the majority.

NET 11 THOUSAND 402 LIRA

The minimum wage is currently applied as 13 thousand 414 lira and 50 kuruş gross per month for one worker, and 11 thousand 402 lira and 32 kuruş net after taxes and deductions.

The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is 15 thousand 762 lira and 4 kuruş for one worker. Of this, 13 thousand 414 lira and 50 kuruş constitutes the gross minimum wage, 2 thousand 79 lira and 25 kuruş constitutes the social security premium, and 268 lira and 29 kuruş constitutes the employer's unemployment insurance premium.
