Minister Işıkhan addresses 'curiosity': What is the meaning of the 2 liras in the minimum wage?
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan spoke about what the '2' lira portion of the 17,002 TL minimum wage signifies.
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan answered questions regarding the agenda during a television program he attended.
Stating that "The minimum wage is determined on a daily and gross basis. We express it as net, but it is determined as gross," Işıkhan remarked, "It is entirely a technical matter."
"THE 2 LIRAS IN THE MINIMUM WAGE IS A TECHNICAL MATTER"
Addressing the discussions regarding the 2 lira portion of the minimum wage, Işıkhan noted that for all employees earning above the minimum wage, their income up to the minimum wage level is exempt from both stamp tax and income tax.
Işıkhan stated that the minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission and provided the following information:
"The minimum wage is determined on a daily and gross basis. We express it as net, but it is determined as gross. Hourly and monthly amounts are calculated accordingly. It is entirely a technical matter. It is a regulation made by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission. Now, according to this, the monthly gross minimum wage amount for 2024 was determined as 20,002 lira and 50 kuruş. The hourly amount was determined as 88 lira and 90 kuruş. After deductions, the net minimum wage amount is determined as 17,002 lira and 12 kuruş. We have expressed this figure."
