Minister Işıkhan's 'inflation' message on minimum wage: 'This will be my fundamental principle!'

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan made notable statements regarding the minimum wage.

In an interview with the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak, Minister Işıkhan said, "We will not let the minimum wage be crushed by inflation."

MESSAGE TO TÜRK-İŞ

Highlights from Minister Işıkhan's statements are as follows:

"The Minimum Wage Determination Commission pays attention to the current inflation rate, the country's macroeconomic balances, purchasing power, and several other variables. As our President frequently states, we are in favor of protecting the welfare of our citizens and producing permanent, rather than temporary, welfare solutions. This will be my fundamental principle and philosophy. We will follow the same path this year as we did last December. As a citizen and Minister of this country, I desire a wage level that will not be crushed by inflation and will protect and improve the purchasing power of our citizens. However, I cannot determine this alone. Because we have an arbitrator role between the rates proposed by the worker and the employer. I hope an agreement is reached at a favorable point. We will come together on a certain date in December. Türk-İş brought workers last year. If there is a similar move, we would be happy to host the workers this year as well. After all, workers are our stakeholders."
