Minister Şimşek's response on 'asset peace': No obligation to report brought assets to tax offices

CHP Bolu Deputy and Industry Commission member Türker Ateş asked Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek about the amount of money recorded under asset peace programs.

"THERE HAS BEEN 37 BILLION DOLLARS OF CAPITAL INFLOW WITH UNEXPLAINED SOURCES SINCE 2018"

Ateş said, "The Treasury and Finance Ministry does not know how much wealth has been recorded through Asset Peace. It should not be surprising that our country has become a haven for dirty money. Through the seven asset peace programs enacted, dirty money from all over the world has flowed into Turkey."

Stating that capital inflows with unexplained sources can also be observed in Central Bank records, Ateş spoke as follows:

"Even in the figures announced by the Central Bank, there are traces of dirty money. Since 2018, the amount of money entering the country with an unexplained source - net errors and omissions - is more than 37 billion dollars. Since 2018, approximately 20 billion dollars of portfolio investment has fled the country. Attempts were made to cover up the registered foreign capital fleeing the country with dirty money. The dirty money of the world's mafias has flowed into Turkey. It is no coincidence that world-famous mafia leaders are being caught in our country. With the government's hand, the country has turned into Texas. When registered foreign capital did not come, we were left with the world's dirty money."

"HOW MUCH ASSET HAS BEEN RECORDED?"

Stating that the government even turns a blind eye to dirty money to save the day, Ateş listed the questions that Mehmet Şimşek avoided answering as follows:

-To date, how much in assets has been recorded under the scope of Asset Peace applications?

-How much of the recorded assets were reported from abroad and how much were declared domestically?

-How many individuals or firms have benefited from the Asset Peace application? In some applications, some were exempted from taxes, while in others, low tax rates were introduced. How much tax revenue has been generated from Asset Peace applications?

-How many people benefited from the Asset Peace application that came into effect in 2022? How much tax revenue was generated?

-Does your Ministry have any work underway for a new Asset Peace application in the coming period?
