Ministry of Trade imposes 848 million in fines on audited firms

The Ministry of Trade announced that it has imposed a total of 848 million 240 thousand 387 liras in administrative fines as a result of audit activities carried out in 2023 and 2024 within the scope of automotive, real estate, unfair pricing, price labeling, and other domestic trade legislation.

The ministry also stated that it has taken and continues to take measures against market-disrupting and consumer-misleading behaviors. The ministry reported that the fight against exorbitant pricing and hoarding is continuing with determination, and that audit activities are being carried out intensively within this framework. 

The following statements were included in the announcement made by the Ministry:

"A total of 212 million 176 thousand 230 liras in administrative fines were imposed, with 135 million 104 thousand 257 liras in 2023 and 77 million 71 thousand 973 liras in 2024. As a result of the measures we have taken in this area, we have made significant progress in preventing activities aimed at disrupting market balance and obtaining unfair profits. On the other hand, our market audits continue uninterruptedly through our Provincial Directorates of Trade in 81 provinces. In this context, 4 million 21 thousand 80 products of 124 thousand 188 firms were audited in 2023, and 96 million 851 thousand 871 liras in administrative fines were imposed on 43 thousand 864 non-compliant products. In the first two months of 2024, 1 million 53 thousand 440 products of 43 thousand 590 firms were audited, and 34 million 666 thousand 798 liras in administrative fines were imposed on 9 thousand 117 non-compliant products.” 

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that many regulations have been put into effect in the automotive and real estate sectors in the field of domestic trade, and it was noted, “We are carrying out intensive audit activities all over our country regarding those who do not comply with these regulations for the automotive sector. Within the scope of these audits, we have audited 2 thousand 258 firms to date and imposed a total of 404 million 741 thousand 914 liras in administrative fines on 688 firms. Just as in the automotive sector, we are meticulously continuing our efforts to eliminate consumer grievances caused by speculative price increases that are far from reality in the real estate sector, and to re-establish a fair, competitive, and stable market structure in the sector. In this context, as a result of our audits regarding the real estate sector, approximately 100 million liras in administrative fines have been imposed on a total of one thousand 338 businesses” statements were used. 

On the other hand, it was reported in the statement that the Ministry imposed a total of 848 million 240 thousand 387 liras in administrative fines in 2023 and 2024 as a result of the audit activities it carried out within the scope of automotive, real estate, unfair pricing, price labeling, and other domestic trade legislation.
