Ministry of Trade study: 70% of digital consumers do not believe in discounted prices

The Ministry of Trade's study reveals that 7 out of every 10 people believe that discounted prices on shopping platforms do not reflect the truth. The same study indicates that 4 out of every 10 people have encountered misleading discount rates and prices on these platforms.

In the study conducted as part of the "Digital Consumer Protection Project/Phase I: Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices Project," it is noted that with the increase in digitalization, consumers are turning more toward online environments and encountering digital advertisements and applications more frequently. Furthermore, it was stated that 79% of the files brought to the agenda of the Advertising Board consist of advertisements and applications published on digital channels.

According to the results of the study, the majority of consumers struggle to distinguish advertisements in digital media and are concerned about the sharing of personal data. Additionally, the perception that discounted prices on shopping platforms do not reflect the truth is quite widespread.

The Ministry of Trade had launched the "Digital Consumer Protection Project" to identify and resolve such issues and announced that the first phase of the research conducted under this project has been completed. The project aims to protect consumers more effectively in digital environments.
