Ministry tightens inspections following minimum wage hike! Fines reaching 10 million liras issued

The minimum wage will be applied as 22,104 liras in 2025! The minimum wage, which was 17,002 liras in 2024, had lost its purchasing power in the face of high inflation. While millions of citizens are deeply concerned about the cost of living, the Ministry of Trade has pressed the button. 

Accordingly, the Ministry stated that during the three-day inspections, the province where the most market inspections were carried out was Istanbul, followed by Antalya and Ankara.

INTERVENTION AGAINST UNFAIR PRICING

In the ranking of provinces where the most violations were detected, Istanbul took the first place with over 2,000 products. It was followed by Ankara with 1,377 products. In its statement regarding the inspections, the Ministry of Trade said, "Proceedings have been initiated against 2,668 companies on suspicion of unfair price increases within the scope of the inspections, and these companies have been requested to provide defenses and three-month retrospective invoices regarding the suspicious transactions."

As a result of the examinations, companies for which sufficient concrete data is found regarding excessive price increases will be referred to the Unfair Price Evaluation Board. The Board will be able to impose fines on companies ranging from 100 thousand to 1 million liras for 2024, and from 143 thousand 930 liras to 1 million 439 thousand liras for 2025.
