Morgan Stanley forecasts a strong first half for Indian stock markets
Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) India has presented a positive outlook for Indian stock markets, expressing expectations for strong performance in the first half of the coming year. Firm analysts emphasized that while there may be volatility in the second half of the year due to the Lok Sabha elections, they remain optimistic about India's economic growth and the medium-term earnings potential of its companies.
Morgan Stanley believes that events such as the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will contribute to a strong December quarter, supporting economic activity and investor sentiment.
Although investors are showing interest in long-term capital allocations in India, they are facing challenges regarding headline valuations. Analysts suggest that even if absolute returns decrease, India's market performance remains significant when compared to global standards. They argued that India is poised to outperform its peers in the event of a global downturn and could witness an absolute rise if global growth stabilizes.
Morgan Stanley also noted that India's investment environment does not directly compete with China's, but it could benefit from positive emerging market sentiment led by China's performance. This could potentially increase investment flows into India.
A significant development highlighted by the analysts is the recovery in capital expenditures in India, driven by private investments and the government's focus on infrastructure. This marks a departure from the policies of previous governments, which focused more on subsidies and consumption-led growth strategies. The shift toward infrastructure investments is expected to support the country's economic growth and establish a foundation for sustainable growth in corporate earnings over time.
