MSCI puts new evaluation process for Turkish stocks on its agenda
MSCI has announced that it will continue to examine concerns regarding investability in Turkish capital markets on a case-by-case basis and may adjust the free-float ratios of certain stocks when necessary.
International index provider MSCI has announced that in cases where there are doubts regarding the investability of Turkish capital market instruments, each of the assets in question will be reviewed individually. In a statement released by the company, it was noted that updates to the free-float ratios of specific securities could be made when deemed necessary.
Furthermore, it was reported that some shareholders, including the holdings of certain funds, could be reclassified as non-free-float groups for the relevant securities. In this context, MSCI emphasized that clients would be notified before any changes are implemented.
MSCI also reiterated that, as previously announced, it will share updates regarding the review process for the Indonesian and Turkish markets with the public prior to the November 2026 Index Review period.
Warnings regarding the Turkish market have been on the agenda in the past as well. The organization had previously announced that if sufficient, tangible, and reliable progress is not made in the Turkish market by the November 2026 MSCI Index Review, it could initiate a new consultation process for the MSCI Turkey index and the stocks included within that index.
