New Year activity begins in Uludağ
Preparations for the New Year have been completed in Uludağ, one of Turkey's major winter tourism centers, but the lack of snowfall has disappointed citizens. Hotel occupancy rates have remained at the 50 percent level.
The ski slopes in Uludağ, one of Turkey's most important winter tourism centers, were a disappointing sight. In the tourism center, where snowfall began about 2 weeks ago, the snow level on the ski slopes has dropped to 3 centimeters due to the effects of the southwesterly wind (lodos) and sunny weather. Citizens who wanted to spend the last days of 2023 in Uludağ resorted to sledding due to the lack of snowfall.
Meanwhile, hotel occupancy rates remained at the 50 percent level. While citizens arriving from different cities created heavy traffic in the hotel zone, gendarmerie teams increased security measures. As vacationers prepared for the New Year, those who started the day early took souvenir photos with their loved ones after sledding.
Long queues formed at the toll booths at the entrance to Uludağ, and the summit was also filmed from the air during the final hours of 2023.
Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat, who conducted inspections at some businesses in Uludağ, drank salep at a kiosk in Çobankaya and chatted with citizens.
