Notable decline in Gazprom's natural gas exports to Europe

In June, the amount of natural gas sent to Europe via the TurkStream pipeline fell to a daily average of 37.6 million cubic meters. In the previous month, this figure was at the 46 million cubic meter level. Thus, a decrease of 18.3 percent in shipments occurred within a one-month period.

Furthermore, total natural gas exports from Russia to Europe in the January-July period of the year also decreased by nearly half compared to the same period last year. It was reported that exports, which were 15.5 billion cubic meters in the first seven months of last year, fell to 8.33 billion cubic meters in the same period this year.

One of the notable points was the increase seen in exports made via TurkStream. In the first six-month period, the amount of gas transported to Europe via the TurkStream line rose by 6.8 percent to 7.8 billion cubic meters.

Experts state that both the change in energy demands in the region and the shift toward alternative sources are effective in the general decrease in Russian gas to Europe.
