Number of billionaires in Istanbul announced! Global ranking revealed
According to the 2026 assessment of the Hurun Global Rich List, Istanbul has achieved a significant position among global metropolises in terms of the number of billionaires. While the wealth map is shifting with the rise of Asian cities, Istanbul is showing a remarkable upward trend.
The ranking of cities where the world's billionaires are concentrated reveals how the balance of power in the global economy is evolving. According to data from the 2026 Hurun Global Rich List, there are 4,020 billionaires living worldwide, and these individuals are concentrated in specific hubs.
New York continues to hold the title of "billionaire capital of the world," hosting 146 billionaires. The city continues to stand out as the heart of the financial world, with its investment funds and major real estate companies. However, in recent years, China's economic centers have made a major leap, closing in on the top spot.
China's rapidly rising cities—Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing—occupied three of the top four spots on the list. Thanks to its development in technology and manufacturing, Shenzhen placed second with 132 billionaires. Shanghai solidified its position at the top of the list with 120 billionaires, while the capital, Beijing, followed with 107. Asia holds significant weight in terms of the number of billionaires; 58 percent of the list is concentrated in cities on this continent. India's cities of Mumbai (95) and New Delhi (64) are also increasing their share in Asia becoming a financial powerhouse.
In Europe, the top spot belongs to London with 102 billionaires. Traditional wealth centers such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, and Moscow also maintain their stability.
On the other hand, Istanbul ranked 24th with 31 billionaires, creating an impact on par with giant cities like Tokyo. The city stands out on the list, particularly due to its economic activity in recent years and the increase in its entrepreneurial wealthy class. Dubai, a notable city in the Middle East, rounded out the list with 24 billionaires.
In the update dated January 15, 2026, individuals with a total net worth of 1 billion dollars or more were taken into account. Istanbul's rise on the list is seen as linked to the financial growth in the city and the diversification of its wealthy segment.
